Why is my Google Adwords Campaign not Getting any Impressions?
If you’ve ever set up a Google campaign and failed to get any impressions then this post may be able to help you resolve the problem
Have you set up a Google Adwords campaign and it’s just not generating any impressions? I’ve recently had this issue and it took me a while to fix it so I thought I’d share my experience.
Here are a few potential reasons why your campaign might not be receiving any impressions:
- Bid strategy in “Learning” phase: When your bid strategy is set to “Learning,” Google Ads is still adjusting to find the optimal way to display your ads to the right audience. During this phase, your ads may appear less frequently than they would with a fully optimised bid strategy.
- Budget constraints: If your budget is set too low, Google Ads may not have sufficient funds to display your ads as often as necessary to reach your target audience. Increasing your budget could result in more frequent ad appearances.
- Overly narrow targeting: Targeting a very specific or limited audience can reduce the chances of your ads being shown. Expanding your target audience could increase ad impressions.
- Ad relevance issues: If your ads are not aligned with the interests of the people seeing them, they are less likely to engage. This could result in Google showing your ads less often. Ensuring that your ads are relevant to your target audience can improve visibility.
Learning Phase
If in “learning” phase you might just have to wait it out. Sometimes Google just needs to figure how best to display your ads and who to display them to.

Budget Constraints
The easy answer to this one is turn up the budget – If you’ve been waiting three days then there’s no harm in putting your daily budget to X3 and when the ads kick in, just turn it back to your desired budget, this is what resolved my block.
Overly Narrow Targeting
Try and expand your target audience, is the location setting too small? Perhaps you have narrowed the audience with too many segments, age, interests etc – Have a play to increase your audience and this should help getting the campaign firing impressions.
Ad Relevance Issues
If your ads don’t match your keywords or landing page settings you’ll be hit with a small ad relevance score, I’m always striving for a minimum of 80% but often hit 95-100%, this will reduce your overall cost per lead / click so it’s always worth getting the highest score that you can.
